I Grammy che ci piacciono e alcune accuse pesanti

Spegne 63 candeline la kermesse dei Grammy Awards e chiaramente quasi tutte le testate giornalistiche si stanno concentrando sul carattere dell’edizione “al femminile”, sui record di Beyoncé e su altri trionfi che erano abbastanza scontati, come ad esempio quelli di Taylor Swift per l’album Folklore, di Dua Lipa e dell’oramai onnipresente Billie Eilish sia per il suo disco Everything I Wanted che per la colonna sonora dell’ultimo 007 con il brano “No Time to Die”.

Senza nulla togliere a queste ed altre star e ai loro fan, vogliamo però mettere in luce qualche altra bella vittoria che rischia di passare sotto silenzio perché “di nicchia” rispetto ai fuochi d’artificio del pop moderno, ma che invece sono simbolo di un’elevato livello di cultura musicale.

I Grammy che (noi) mettiamo in prima pagina

Innanzitutto, l’appena scomparso Chick Corea è stato protagonista di due belle vittorie e diciamo anche meritate, non solo “in memoriam”.
Il primo Grammy lo ha vinto per il Best Improvised Jazz Solo per il suono momento solistico sullo standard “All Blues”.
Poi, ancora più importante, il caro Chick è coinvolto con gli illustri colleghi Christian McBride e Brian Blade nel Best Jazz Instrumental Album, per il bellissimo disco Trilogy 2 (il numero 1 fu pubblicato nel 2013). Si tratta di un disco che raccoglie i migliori momenti dei loro live e che vale ogni minuto del vostro tempo, consigliatissimo.

Usciamo dal Jazz per approdare all’Alternative Rock, che premia una grande artista dei nostri tempi: Fiona Apple si porta a casa il Best Alternative Music Album per il suo Fetch the Bolt Cutters, un disco di cui anche noi vogliamo sottolineare il valore, probabilmente una delle uscite più interessanti dello scorso anno.
Fiona è un’artista libera che tende a perseguire i propri scopi andando molto al di là delle logiche del music business, che in questo caso però si accorge di lei e la premia, bene così.
Fiona si è anche aggiudicata il premio per la Best Rock Performance con il brano “Shameika“.

Nel Blues è stato premiato un artista che da anni sta oramai attirando l’attenzione di moltissimi appassionati di buona musica: Fantastic Negrito si mette in tasca il Best Contemporary Blues Album per il suo album Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?
Chi non conosce ancora questo artista dovrebbe approfondirlo, anche nelle precedenti produzioni poiché capace di diverse sfaccettature.

I vecchi leoni sono ancora in grado di far sentire il proprio ruggito? Beh, se prendiamo uno come James Taylor è facile dire di sì, che con il bel disco American Standard si porta via il Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Un decano del folk acustico americano che canta dei classici senza tempo, non è sicuramente il disco più significativo della sua carriera, ma la piacevolezza d’ascolto è senza dubbio assai alta.

Una band che oramai da anni sta dimostrando “come si suona” è quella degli Snarky Puppy, un concentrato di tecnica, groove, talenti personali e buone composizioni come non si vedevano da tempo in un gruppo così numeroso.
Non a caso, viene premiato un loro disco dal vivo: Live at the Royal Albert Hall è il Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
Quando torneremo (speriamo presto!) a goderci i concerti, non perdeteveli assolutamente.

Uno dei più splendenti giovani talenti di tutto il globo terracqueo, nonché oramai “figlioccio” di Quincy Jones ed Herbie Hancock (mica pizza e fichi…), cioé Jacob Collier, si porta a casa il Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals per “He Won’t Hold You” (featuring Rapsody).
Chi segue i suoi canali sa bene quanto questo musicista sia sorprendente, con un quoziente intellettivo/musicale anni luce sopra la media.

Infine, per quanto riguarda l’ambito classico, ci fa piacere trovare un premio per un album che coinvolge la direzione d’orchestra del nostro Riccardo Muti, con la prestigiosa Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 13, ‘Babi Yar è il Best Engineered Album, Classical (ingegneri del suono David Frost & Charlie Post, Frost è stato anche premiato come produttore dell’anno di musica classica).

Una polemica pesante

Prima di elencarvi tutti i Grammy, apriamo una parentesi sulle pesantissime accuse rivolte agli organizzatori dalla star canadese The Weeknd.
Infatti, da diverse settimane l’artista, che non ha ricevuto neanche una nomination (a suo parere ingiustamente), accusa di corruzione tutto lo show, dicendo sui propri social a chiare lettere che “I Grammy sono corrotti, dovete maggiore trasparenza me, ai miei fan e all’industria“.

Ricordiamo che The Weeknd non è propriamente “l’ultimo degli scappati di casa”, tanto che è stato protagonista dell’halftime show dell’ultimo Super Bowl, un palco decisamente molto importante. Fa quindi, in effetti, un po’ strano non vederlo presente ai Grammy.
Lui stesso continua: “esistono dei comitati segreti, non permetterò più alla mia etichetta discografica di sottoporre la mia musica ai Grammy”.

Che siano i Grammy, che siano gli Oscar o qualsiasi altro premio in cui di sicuro non ci sono solo i singoli artisti coinvolti, non mancano mai le accuse prima e dopo. Resta un momento fatto di lustrini e paillettes, di tappeti rossi e sicuramente di grandi business.
E magari anche di musica, anche di quella buona come elencato sopra. Certo è che non accontenta tutti…
