Vai a una festa estiva a sentire una cover band e sul palco ti ritrovi due terzi dei Green Day.

È quello che è successo al 40th Street Block Party ad Oakland, quando sul palco insieme alla cover band The Coverups sono saliti niente meno che Billie Joe Armstrong e Mike Dirnt dei Green Day. I due si sono divertiti per una volta a mettere da parte le loro canzoni per eseguire una serie di classici, dai Ramones ai Rolling Stones, passando per Misfits, Nirvana, Tom Petty, David Bowie, The Clash, ecc.

Inutile dire che il pubblico, che si aspettava una normale cover band, è andato in visibilio. Ma diciamola tutta, la cover band in questione è pur sempre il gruppetto di cui fa parte Bill Schneider, backliner dei Green Day e socio di Armstrong per il negozio di strumenti musicali Broken Guitars proprio a Oakland.
Insomma, si è giocato in casa. Ma il tutto è assai divertente (però fate cantare Billie…).
